Kat Shevchenko was born in San Antonio, Texas USA in 1979. She attended the Academy of Art College in San Francisco, CA from 2000-2003 and graduated with a degree in Illustration.

     Currently she has been attending the University of Texas at San Antonio since 2004 to further study Fine Arts with an emphasis on painting.                                             

Kat lives in San Antonio, Texas with her husband, two cats & two ferrets.                                                                                                                                              

Artist Statement

  Reveling and being in awe of the mystery of the universe is a theme I like to explore through my  work, which involves at times visual paradoxes. Candid personal reflections and social commentaries also appear in my paintings as I explore further possibilities of expression.  I value a sense of humor; an enjoyment of absurdity, which at times reveals more of a darker twist to the psyche.                                                                                                                                                                                        A love of fantasy from childhood facilitated an interest in illustration where I enjoy creating worlds populated by magical creatures and telling stories. Some of my influences are Edmund Dulac, Maxfield Parrish, and Brian Froud.
