Kat was born in San Antonio, Texas...

She attended the Academy of Art University in San Francisco, CA from 2000-2003 and graduated with a BFA in Illustration.

During the summer of 2006 she traveled to Austria and studied the Old Master’s Mische technique with Prof. Phillip Rubinov Jacobson and Cynthia Re Robbins. In Mische technique, an underpainting is rendered on a red earth ground with white egg tempera which radiates through successive layers of transparent oil paint glazes creating wondrous optical effects. After learning this transformative technique Kat has used it extensively in her painting. It’s magical properties and effects are inimitable.
